a night in Hongdae with Funkafric & BoostDah

A few weeks ago on a Saturday night, I met up with Luca and we headed to Hongdae on his Vespa. Hongdae is a hip University area in Seoul. Many clubs, cafes, and live music. Luca and some of his friends had checked out this band called "Funkafric BoostDah" the night before and decided to go back. So....we arrive and the bar is literally in the basement of an apartment building. Very small and sure to be a fun time.

the entrance poster next to the entry way....

Some of the band members....BoostDah is the one with the Russian looking hat.

You can tell by the clothes that they have some rhythm and funk :)

During the first set....Boostdah in the pink robe...

They definitely can jam...some of the better live music that I've heard in Seoul. As in small venue and local Seoul band.

do you agree, she needs to smile a bit more! ;) (she's an attractive drummer)

quite a mix of instruments.

I talked with the bass player afterwards...she's cool!

also talked with this guy after wards. He lived in L.A. for many years, therefore his English was really good. Interesting to talk with him about the band and living in the U.S.

Taking a photo of a guy taking a photo....

She's jammin' from hand drums (bongos) to the drum set....

from stand-up bass to bass guitar...

BoostDah with the "Bling" jacket of the evening...

Afterwards Luca, Federica, and I went out with the band to some near by restaurants for some food and drinks. Good times!! pretty cool to hang out with the local funk band that we just danced to an hour before.
The music was from about 9pm-12pm then we heading out with the band, Funkafric & BoostDah from 1230am to about 530am....yep a late but enjoyable night.
As we were out, Giuditta and Nicole joined up with us, they came up after hanging in Itaewon.

Well, after leaving Hongdae we made our way back to Itaewon. Decided to finish the night as the sun was coming up with some Coffee Bean. Cappuccino's and a few pastries. Interesting to see the crowd after a late night. The girl above is sleeping in a chair with her mask on....I guess you can never be too safe about the pollution or swine flu. Maybe she is just a drooler or loud snorer.

these two girls are passed out....taking a nap until the transit system opens, which is around this time....cause I think it's about 600am by now.

Then there's our crew.....Nicole and Giuditta....

Federica....giving the eye!

Luca, enjoying his bagel....

and me with some kind of smirk, I think more of a 'silly' one.

Well, that's all........
It's been a while since the last post. My MacBook actually broke down and I had to get a new hard drive.....so I will be catching up with new posts in the days to come.

It's been a great spring and summer is just around the corner....lots of fun times ahead. Hard to believe I have 3 months left in my 2nd year contract. We just started the summer semester at the academy.....and I'm starting to decide about staying in Korea another year or heading to the next adventure................................
Ciao for Now!

:D
