Back on the rio "2009" in S.Korea

Bright n' early on Saturday morning 2009.3.28....not much sleep due to hanging out with co-workers after work, but the thought of kayaking energizes the mind and body. :)
We loaded the Volvo and headed towards the Misan Valley.

just on the line of Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do province, a nice rest stop to get some snack and stretch out.

AND....can't forget to to get some of the famous Gangwon-do potatoes.

Heading over the hill into Gangwon-do...YAHOO!

Beautiful day with snow on the ground. First site of a good snowfall all year....due to living in the city, we didn't see too much snow this year. One thing I really miss about COlorado.

heading through the countryside. Beautiful blue skies and snow cover the mountain farmland.

we made it...we are now in the Misan Valley of the Naerinchon (river) Luca getting excited to unload his Dagger Outlaw....

Beautiful view...unfortunately the water is super low, but should still be fun to be in the kayak...

this is the entrance to triple drop....wow...i have never experienced this level....LOW!

hmmm....it's great to be in the crisp, clean mountain air. Very quiet and relaxing compared to the city life in Bundang and Seoul. It's going to be fantastic day!

Another beautiful view!

Super clear water...

A look at of "S" turn rapids....a lot of boulders, where is the water?!?

we decided to put~in above 1st falls due to the low water, since all the good rapids start here...now need to head further upstream.

walking back from my morning "duty" :) ahhh....feel much better, especially after drinking CASS with the co~workers last night.

the Project 62 is ready....

pre-kayak snack....about 1030am...a Heine and Gangwon-do potatoes. yummy!

Luca looking all serious....not sure why?!?

The bridge at today's put~in....

Luca...looking to do his daily 'Duty" .......

my converse all stars....

still winter time in Gangwon-do!

enjoying the first day out...making sure she's ready!

AND we're ready to get on the rio......

some snowy rocks....It's nice to have Olympus waterproof/shock proof cameras.....

ahhh....feeling really happy, this is my type of environment and I've really missed it!

Luca making a move...

even though it's low..low...water there is still a little bit of action, and it's nice to feel some cold mountain water in the face...

The water color reminded me a little bit like the Soca in Slovenia....

Sieve like water feature....made for a nice capture...

Taking a break and enjoying a snowy river bank...

it was nice to make some moves....feeling in the groove!

ahhh.....just like I remembered, I need to do this more often :)

S turn rapids at LOW water....

enjoyed catching a lot of eddies...

cool shot in the "toilet bowl" this natural rock bowl that you can paddle into...at high water it's definitely sketchy!

S Turn rapids at low water...

Luca in S turn rapids...

the water was so clear...

we saw this nest on a cliff side...not sure what kind of bird, insect, or Korean creature made this?!?

Luca about to enter into "triple drop"

towards the end of triple drop...

Yahoo! well...after about 4hours of fun it came to an end. We definitely enjoyed our first day on the rio of 2009 despite the LOW water!

we tried hitch hiking for a ride, but there were no cars this early in the season...so we walked, jogged back to the put-in bridge.

just about to walk down the hill to the car....cool rock engraved "beautiful Misan valley" anyway...that's what I think! ;)

Luca brought 2 Peroni's to enjoy afterwards....

Salute to a nice day on the rio...

relaxing and drying out our gear a bit before heading back to the concrete jungle!

a fine Italian beer..

Stopping on the way back for some Korean BBQ.

Back at Luca's house in Itaewon....adjusting the prosciutto from the rack/holder....

trimming some prosciutto...

so tasty to be able to eat this in S.Korea...

Olives, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Prosciutto

looking out at the rooftops from Luca's place...

That is it....hope you enjoyed the pictures...it was great to be back on the rio.

Stay tuned for more photo's of my experiences in S.Korea!

ENJOY LIFE!
