Hajodae Beach to the Misan Valley...Gangwando, S.Korea

A super Saturday,May 30th....consisting of Kayak surfing at Hajodae Beach on the East Sea and Whitewater kayaking in the Misan Valley. What a spectacular day! It was a long one, getting up at 515am to leave Bundang at 545am and then getting back around 11pm. Although well worth it.

As we met the other kayakers, we decided to load up one vehicle for the adventure. Today it will be me and 4 Korean kayakers.....

One of the kayak clubs in S.Korea....headed up by Captain Kim....who you will see in the next posting from this past weekend....

one of the guys works for a liquor distributor....

Driving to the East Sea, passing Seoraksan National Park.

Nice load of kayaks...

We arrived not knowing how the waves would be....we knew there would be some, but they ended up bigger than we thought...YAHOO!!! Surfs Up :D

a nice set rolling in....

the crew...L to R....Mandu, the Blunter, Haro, and Big Wave....Yes these are nicknames :)

getting ready....ahh....there's my WS Project, ready for action.

getting ready....

Haro's ready!

pretty good size today...you can see the orange spec middle left, that's the Blunter getting a good ride.....

trying to capture the color of the water.....

some wild looking action.....

Big Wave

Haro

the Blunter

the WS Project 62, my ride!

Hey.......my eyes were burning from the sun, salt, and sand

Finishing up and deciding about the next move....

loading up and heading to Lunch....check out the skirts....instead of using a towel to change, or just getting naked, they have made up some skirts....Haro with the fashionable flower print....

using the GPS, checking out the quickest route to the river....check out "kayaker joe" on the dash

We stopped in Yang-Yang for some lunch....Chinese was the choice....

Well....Chinese-Korean....

Some 'tangsuyuk' which is sweet n sour pork..pretty tasty....makes for a good appetizer ;)

high % chinese alcohol...i think it was 56%

i had one shot and poured one.....the culture of drinking and pouring alcohol is pretty interesting in S.Korea...

I had some 'bokkeumbop', which is fried rice with jajangmyeon sauce (black bean sauce)

group shot courtsey of the restaurant owner...and off to the Misan Valley for some WW

On the way, we stopped for some dessert, 'tteok' rice cake

ahh...now for some fresh water....and a nice place to rinse off all the salt from the sea...
the River was low, but still fun and what more than to be in a beautiful place....

Big Wave w/some bow stallin'

Mandu, looking happy!

the Blunter having a good line on the 1st drop...

another capture of the water....

Haro making the line....

Bow stalling in what I have named "the toilet bowl"....this naturally shaped pot hole in a very large boulder...pretty cool!

it's really getting green in the mountains....gotta love NATURE!

Giving out a HELL YEAH!!!

On the way home we stopped in a small city called Hongcheon. Found a good chicken place that specializes in 'Dakgalbi'

this is 'Dakgalbi' pieces of chicken, cabbage, other vegetables and finger-sized pressed-rice cakes, which is grilled at your table in a spicy sauce. My first time having this, and have to say it was tasty after a long day of driving and kayaking!

as usual....kayakers checking out photos from the day :D

almost ready to eat....

hangin' loose !! hehehe

B&W of Dowtown Hongcheon at night....and about to head home!!

Well, what a fun day....one nice thing about living in Korea...I can surf the sea and kayak the river all in one day.... GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

Stay tuned for the next posting of a kayak trip which was the weekend of June 6~7

Off to Busan (south eastern coastal city) this coming weekend (13-14)....well tomorrow!

Have a Fantastic Day and don't forget to " LIVE LIFE " ;D
